The 2014 French Singles Chart

Like Stromae in the albums chart, Pharrell Williams has the best-selling song for the second consecutive year ! In 2013 he was the featured artist on both Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines”. In 2014 his “Happy” broke the record for the longest reign in the 30-year-old history of the French singles chart, indeed the song ruled for 22 non-consecutive weeks (18 of them in 2014) ! With 344,000 sales, “Happy” is the best-seller by far.

“Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Remix)” is a great runner-up though as it was Number One for 15 weeks for Lilly Wood & The Prick And Robin Schulz (207,900 sales). With Sia‘s “Chandelier”, we have another chart-breaking record, it now owns the longest gap between two separate reigns at the top : 16 weeks ! “Chandelier” was at the top first during the week ending 6th July, then it was back at Number One for two weeks in November (177,800 sales).

Indila‘s “Dernière Danse” was unlucky to stay nine non-consecutive weeks at two behind Pharrell Williams“Happy” (from January to March) but it’s a solid number four for the year with 147,300 sales. “Stolen Dance” was actually the song which dethroned “Happy” of the top spot and sold 134,000 copies for Milky Chance.

Black M was Number One for four weeks in June with “Sur Ma Route” and is at six with 116,100 sales. London Grammar‘s “Wasting My Young Years” was a surprise hit in February as the song became really big when it was sung by contestants of the TV show “The Voice” (100,000 sales).

Coldplay is at eight for 2014 with “A Sky Full Of Stars” (96,800 sales), it’s now the band’s highest-charting song in France (it peaked at three in August). “Waves” by Mr. Probz is number nine (92,600 sales). Thanks to the Flume Remix, “You & Me” sold 91,800 copies for Disclosure featuring Eliza Doolittle.

“Rather Be” is at eleven for Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne (90,800 sales). John Legend‘s “All Of Me” ranks as the 12th best-seller in 2014 with 89,200 copies sold. “Stay High (Habits Remix)” was Tove Lo‘s version (featuring Hippie Sabotage) which sold the most (in comparison with the original / 88,600 sales).

Surprising hits in 2014 have been Cris Cab‘s “Liar Liar” (81,600 sales), “Sirens Call” by Cats On Trees (74,500), Julien Doré‘s “Paris-Seychelles” (57,000), and Calogero‘s return to form with “Un Jour Au Mauvais Endroit” (55,000 sales).
