Week Ending 1st July 2012

She’s back !!! As predicted last week, Carly Rae Jepsen is back at the top of the French singles chart with “Call Me Maybe” but it has been a very close battle. Indeed, from last week’s number 2, she has only 182 more sales (8866, -7%) than Flo Rida who is up two places at 2 with “Whistle” (8684, +23%), and only 276 more than last week’s number one, Tacabro‘s “Tacatà” (8590, -13%).

So, in her 10th week in the top 10, Carly Rae Jepsen spends a second week at the top but I can’t predict what will happen in the next few weeks… With “Whistle”, Flo Rida equals his best performance in the French singles chart, “Right Round” (featuring Ke$ha) was also number 2 for one week in April 2009. As for Tacabro, the “physical release effect” only worked for one week, so it will be difficult for “Tacatà” to be back at number one.

For the third week in a row, Pitbull climbs one place with “Back In Time” at 4 (7143 sales, +2%). Like Flo Rida, he can be a contender for the top position.

From last week’s number 13, Shy’m is new in the top 10 with “Et Alors !” (7007 sales, + a massive 77% !), we can explain that by the fact that she released her new album “Caméléon” last week and it’s new at the top of the albums chart with 19962 sales, beating Linkin Park‘s “Living Things” which enters at 2 (17772 sales), and Maroon 5‘s “Overexposed” which is new at number 5 (8055 sales).

After seven weeks in the top 5, Gusttavo Lima is down three places at 6 with “Balada”, Birdy is falling too, down one place at 7 with “Skinny Love”. Jose De Rico (featuring Henry Mendez) is still climbing the chart, up two places at 8 with “Rayos De Sol”. It’s a bad week for Sexion D’Assaut, “Ma Direction” is down two places at number 9 in its 7th week in the top 10, and for Matt Houston (featuring P-Square), his “Positif” is down a place at 10 in its 8th week in the top 10.

After 18 weeks in the top 10, Gotye (featuring Kimbra)’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” is down three places at number 11 with 5070 sales (-15%). Is it possible for him (and for her) to come back with another song in the top 10 ? Place your bets.

There are other interesting movements in the chart this week : there’s a new entry for Muse at 18 with “Survival”. Even if its sales are a lot less important than in the UK (14595 there, and only 3121 in France), its chart position is better than in the UK where it’s only at number 25. Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” is new in the top 50, from last week’s number 57, she is up 17 places at 40 (1675 sales), but I doubt she can have a top 10 in France with this song. This week’s UK number one, “This Is Love” for will.i.am featuring Eva Simons is new at number 46 with 1514 sales.

Have a very good week !
