It’s summertime, so compilations have the power in the French albums chart ! Indeed, they were at the top for eight consecutive weeks last year in July and August (“NRJ Summer Hits Only 2011” for 5 weeks, and “NRJ Extravadance 2011” for 3 weeks), and this year it’s history repeating : “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2012” is number one for the third consecutive week (17805 sales, -13%). The compilation has sold 64920 copies so far, which is less than last year when “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2011” had already sold 72837 copies in its first three weeks.
The highest new entry of the week is at 2 and it’s… another compilation, “M6 Hits Eté 2012” with 11242 sales. During the summer, the French albums chart is very predictable, last year (more precisely in the week ending 24th July 2011), “M6 Hits Eté 2011” enters the chart at number 2 with 14181 sales behind… “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2011”. No comment.
In their 20th consecutive week in the top 5, Sexion D’Assaut are down a place at 3 with “L’Apogée” (8909 sales, -13%). It’s down a place also for Shy’m at 4 with “Caméléon” (6738 sales, -21%), she has sold 48189 copies in four weeks.
The second highest new entry is another compilation at 5, “Le Son Dancefloor 2012 Volume 2” with 6269 sales. A former number one for three weeks, “Voyage En France” is back up three places from 9 to 6 for Les Stentors in its 10th week in the top 10 (6103 sales, +33%). In her 74th consecutive week (!) in the top 10, Adele is down two places at 7 with “21” (5660 sales, -9%).
It’s a first top 10 album for Chico & The Gypsies who climb three places from 11 to 8 with “Chico & The Gypsies… & Friends” in their fourth week in the chart (all in the top 20) with 5478 copies sold. Birdy falls two places at 9 with “Birdy” in her 9th non-consecutive week in the top 10 (5071 sales, +5% though). In its 7th week in the top 10, “Hommage” (it’s a tribute to Bob Marley‘s songs) is down four places at 10 for Yannick Noah (4308 sales, -24%).
The other interesting moves in the albums chart this week are new entries. Canardo is at number 23 with “A La Youv” with 2227 sales, it equals the peak position of his album “Papillon” in June 2010. This week’s US number one, “Life Is Good” enters the chart at 33 for Nas (1672 sales), he reached the top 10 once with the album “It Was Written”, number 7 in September 1996. There is also a new entry for the soundtrack of “The Dark Knight Rises” by Hans Zimmer at number 68, I can predict that it will climb the albums chart next week.
