Week Ending 29th July 2012 / Singles Chart

Carly Rae Jepsen spends a 6th non-consecutive week at the top of the French singles chart with “Call Me Maybe” in her 14th week in the top 10. We can notice that since the start of 2012, we only had six number ones (Shakira, Michel Teló, Gotye featuring Kimbra, Gusttavo Lima, Carly Rae Jepsen and Tacabro) in comparison with 11 at the same time in 2011 (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Colonel Reyel “Celui”, Colonel Reyel “Toutes Les Nuits”, Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull, The Black Eyed Peas, Mylène Farmer “Bleu Noir”, Jessie J featuring B.o.B, Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta, LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and Goonrock, Mylène Farmer “Lonely Lisa”, and Rihanna). Bad news : “Call Me Maybe” only sold 7839 copies (-7%), so it’s the lowest number one since downloads have been combined in the French singles chart in January 2011.

So, it means that Shy’m is still waiting for her first number one hit, indeed “Et Alors !” spends its third consecutive week at number 2 in its 5th week in the top 10 (6414 sales, -0.7%). The top 3 is static this week, as Pitbull stays at 3 with “Back In Time” in his 9th week in the top 10 (5946 sales, -0.6%). “Tacatà” is back up the chart for Tacabro, climbing one place at 4 in its 12th week in the top 10 (5691 sales, -3%).

Carly Rae Jepsen‘s main contender for the number one spot may be will.i.am featuring Eva Simons. Indeed, they are up 6 places at 5 with “This Is Love” in their 5th week in the top 50 (5488 sales, +27%). It’s not the first top 10 for will.i.am as he featured on The Pussycat Dolls‘ “Beep” which reached number 10 in July 2006. Besides, The Black Eyed Peas had ten songs in the top 10, two of them have been number ones, “Shut Up” for one week in January 2004, and “Just Can’t Get Enough” for 4 weeks in March and April 2011.

There are no new songs in the rest of the top 10, “Rayos De Sol” is still at number 6 for Jose De Rico featuring Henry Mendez in its 6th week in the top 10, Birdy is down 3 places with “Skinny Love” in her 12th week in the top 10 (5271 sales, -12%), it’s a bad week also for Flo Rida as his “Whistle” is down a place at 8 in its 10th week in the top 10. In their 22nd (!) week in the top 10, Gotye and Kimbra don’t move at 9 with “Somebody That I Used To Know”. Another former number one (for two weeks in June), “Balada” is down two places at 10 for Gusttavo Lima in its 13th week in the top 10.

Maroon 5 (featuring Wiz Khalifa) are back on their peak position they occupied three weeks ago with “Payphone”, as they are up 3 places at number 11 (4047 sales). Will Maroon 5 have their 3rd top 10 song after “This Love” (number 6 in September 2004) and “Moves Like Jagger” (featuring Christina Aguilera, number 3 in September 2011) ?

R.I.O. featuring Nicco can also be a contender for a top 10 position next week, as “Party Shaker” climbs five places at 12 in its 7th week in the chart. It’s a good week also for Khaled, “C’est la Vie” is up 5 places at 17 (3598 sales, +31%). Emeli Sandé gets her peak position, as “Next To Me” is up one place at number 18.

There are also interesting moves for Keen’V who climbs 14 places at 26 with “Ma Vie Au Soleil”, DJ Mam’s who’s up 15 at number 27 with “Zumba He Zumba Ha”. We can also notice the appearance for the first time in the French top 50 for Selena Gomez & The Scene, as “Love You Like A Love Song” is up a massive 22 places at number 32. Alex Ferrari gets the highest new entry in the top 200 this week at number 34 with “Bara Bará Bere Berê”. Will Carly Rae Jepsen add another top 10 hit soon ? Indeed, “Good Time” (with Owl City) is up 35 places at number 42 (1559 sales).
