Since the week ending 30th January 2011, compilations are present in the combined albums chart, and this week something unusual happened : the four best-selling albums in France are all compilations. In the past, we could see three of them in the top 4 (as last week), but we never see an entire top 4 albums with compilations only. But for the moment, there are no new releases from “big” artists, and compilations are always very good sellers in France during the summer, indeed they had already dominated the albums chart for eight consecutive weeks last year with “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2011” (five weeks) and “NRJ Extravadance 2011” (three weeks).
There is a change at the top of the albums chart, as “Zumba Fitness Dance Party 2012” is up two places in its second week in the chart (18930 sales, +49%). The highest new entry of the week is at 2 with “NRJ Extravadance 2012 Volume 2” with 17795 sales. As mentioned above, “NRJ Extravadance 2011” spent three weeks at the top, it entered the chart at the top with better sales (26678) in the week ending 7th August 2011.
The last four weeks’ number one, “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2012” is now at 3 in its 5th week in the top 10 (16030 sales, -6%). “M6 Hits Eté 2012” is a non-mover at 4 in its third week in the top 10 (14778 sales, +17%).
The highest artist album is at number 5, and it’s down three places for Keen’V with “La Vie Est Belle” in his second week in the top 10 (12785 sales, -14%).
For the first time, “L’Apogée” is out of the top 5 for Sexion D’Assaut in its 22nd week in the top 10, but it’s their most successful album in terms of weeks spent in the top 10, indeed “L’Apogée” has beaten “L’Ecole Des Points Vitaux” which was there for 21 weeks from April to August 2010. But it will be difficult for them to equal Adele‘s “21” which doesn’t move at number 7 in its 76th (!) consecutive week in the top 10 (7079 sales, +21%).
In her 6th week in the top 10, Shy’m is down two places at 8 with “Caméléon” (5826 sales, -4%), it has sold 60074 copies so far. A former number 6 five weeks ago, Didier Barbelivien is back in the top 10 with his “Best Of 3 CD”, he climbs from 13 to 9 in his seventh week in the chart (5329 sales). “Voyage En France” is a non-mover at 10 for Les Stentors in its 12th week in the top 10 (5217 sales, +18%).
It’s a good week for Maroon 5, as “Overexposed” is back in the top 20, up seven places at number 18 in its 6th week in the chart. “Overexposed” reached number 5 as a new entry in the week ending 1st July. The second new entry is at number 25 and it’s… another compilation, “Summer Hits 2012”.
The US number one, Rick Ross enters the French albums chart at number 29 with “God Forgives, I Don’t”. It’s a huge improvement for Rick Ross, as he only charted with one album, “Port Of Miami” which spent one week in the chart, reaching number 165 in August 2006.
