Compilations still lead the way in the French albums chart this week, but there is a new number one. “NRJ Extravadance 2012 Vol.2” is up one place in its second week in the top 10 (14009 sales, -21%). Like last week’s number one “Zumba Fitness Dance Party 2012” (down a place at 2 in its third week in the top 10 with 13702 sales, -28%), “NRJ Extravadance 2012 Vol.2” needed a second week to reach the top spot. Last August, “NRJ Extravadance 2011” went straight to number one and stayed there for three consecutive weeks. As you can see, summers 2011 and 2012 are very similar in the French albums chart…
There are five (!) compilations in the 10 best-selling albums of the week, and the third one is a non-mover at 3 for “NRJ Summer Hits Only 2012”. A former number one (for 4 weeks), it spends its 6th week in the top 10 (11752 sales, -27%).
The best-selling artist album is still Keen’ V who is back up a place at 4 with “La Vie Est Belle” in his third week in the top 10 (11528 sales, -10%). The album has sold 39134 copies so far.
Four compilations are in the top 5 this week, as “M6 Hits Eté 2012” is down a place at 5 in its fourth week in the top 10 (10582 sales, -28%). French people don’t need to download singles, they just buy compilations in which they can find all the songs they like. In the UK, “Now That’s What I Call Music 82” is very successful too, but you can’t imagine a number one in the singles chart selling less than 40000 copies. It’s the same thing also in the US where the best-selling album this week is “Now That’s What I Call Music 43”. In these two big markets, downloads’ sales figures are up, they are up in France too, but with a very small proportion.
“L’Apogée” is a non-mover at 6 for Sexion D’Assaut in its 23rd consecutive week in the top 10 (9302 sales), but it can’t compete with the 77th consecutive week in the top 10 for Adele‘s “21” which also doesn’t move at 7 (5614 sales, -21%).
There is a new compilation in the top 10, as “Tubes Eté 2012” enters the chart at number 8 (5118 sales). Shy’m is still in the top 10, her “Caméléon” is down just a place at 9 in its 7th week in the top 10 (4561 sales, -22%). Chico & The Gypsies are back in the top 10, “Chico & The Gypsies… & Friends” is up three places at 10 in its 7th week in the top 20 (4501 sales). The album reached number 8 in the week ending 22nd July.
“Cut The World” is a new entry at number 20 for Antony & The Johnsons, it is their third album to reach the top 20, after “The Crying Light” (number 4 in January 2009) and “Swanlights” (number 16 in October 2010).
Jean-Luc Lahaye is new at 34 with his best-of “30 Ans De Chansons”. It’s his first appearance in the top 50 since April 2004 when “Gloria” reached number 28. He was very successful in the eighties, we can notice that his song “Papa Chanteur” was number one for one week in the singles chart in January 1986.
