For the fifth week in a row, we have a new entry at the top of the French albums chart, and this week the number one is quite surprising, it’s the debut album “Oxygen” from a 22 year-old French model, Baptiste Giabiconi (21149 sales). Like Grégoire before him, he used the record company My Major Company. He needed 200000 euros to release his album, and in three months, My Major Company incredibly collected 280176 euros from his fans, and now he has a number one album.
There is also a new entry at number two with Garou‘s new album called “Rhythm And Blues” (12509 sales). He had two number one albums with “Seul” (for five weeks from January to March 2001), and “Garou” (for two weeks in June 2006), but his last album “Version Intégrale” only reached number 33 in December 2010. We can explain his new album’s success by the fact that it’s an album of covers (less risky), and he has been the coach in the French version of the TV show “The Voice”.
Last week’s number one, Mika‘s “The Origin Of Love” is down to three in its second week in the top 10 (10925 sales, -57%). Another album of covers is very successful, as “Opéra Rouge” climbs a massive 179 places at number four for Vincent Niclo & Les Choeurs De L’Armée Rouge (9791 sales). A former number one, Marc Lavoine is back up one place at five with “Je Descends Du Singe” in his third week in the top 10 (9288 sales, -15%), the album has sold 44166 copies so far.
“Tetra” is up three at number six for C2C (9242 sales, +5%). In its four weeks in the top 10, “Tetra” has sold 48840 copies. There is no change at seven for the only remaining compilation in the top 10, “NRJ 200% Hits 2012 Vol. 2”. In her second week in the top 10, P!nk falls four places at eight with “The Truth About Love” (8841 sales, -50%).
Lou Doillon is down one at number nine with “Places” (8430 sales, -9%). There is a third new entry in this week’s top 10, as BB Brunes are new with “Long Courrier” (8333 sales). It’s their second top 10 album, after “Blonde Comme Moi” which was number eight in June 2008.
Four albums drop out of the top 10 this week. In their 14th week in the chart, Chico & The Gypsies are down three places at 13 with “Chico & The Gypsies… & Friends”. Jenifer is down 11 at number 14 with “L’Amour Et Moi” in her second week in the chart (6505 sales, -64%). “Messina” is down 14 places at number 16 for Saez. It’s also a bad second week for Michael Jackson‘s “Bad 25” which is down 19 places at 24 (3986 sales, -67%).
It’s not a fifth top 10 album for Sinik, as “La Plume Et Le Poignard” is new at 11. His last album “L’Assassin – Le Côté Malsain” reached number eight in June 2011. There is a new entry at 12 for Green Day with “¡Uno!”, it’s a bit disappointing as they were at the top for one week in May 2009 with “21st Century Breakdown”. “Mission” is new at 20 for I Barocchisti.
Les Stentors are up a massive 34 places at 23 with “Voyage En France”, the album was number one for three weeks in May and June. Dany Brillant is new at a low number 25 with “Viens A Saint-Germain”, his last album “Puerto Rico” reached number two in October 2009. Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Kiss” is down 13 places at number 27 in its second week in the chart (3723 sales, -42%).
“Push And Shove” is new at 33 for No Doubt. It’s their third top 40 album, after “Tragic Kingdom” (number 14 in May 1997), and “Return Of Saturn” (number 21 in April 2000), “Rock Steady” only reached number 79 in March 2003. “> Album Title Goes Here <“ is the first charting album for deadmau5, as it enters at number 51.
Number one in the UK and the US with very huge sales, “Babel” only enters the French albums chart at number 67 for Mumford & Sons. But we can explain that by the fact that “Sigh No More”‘s peak position was only number 173 (!) in April 2010. In its second week in the chart, “Battle Born” is down 50 places at 79 for The Killers.
