Even if the album was given for free on iTunes, Songs Of Innocence is U2‘s eighth Number One LP as it debuts at the top of the French albums chart with 21,771 copies sold in 3 days (it was released last Friday). The band’s other chart-toppers were The Joshua Tree (for 20 consecutive weeks from April to August 1987), Achtung Baby (for two weeks in March 1992), Zooropa (for one week in July 1993), Pop (for one week in March 1997), All That You Can’t Leave Behind (for one week in November 2000), How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (for one week in November 2004) and No Line On The Horizon (for one week in March 2009). The latter had opened with 63,109 CDs sold.
After four consecutive weeks at the top, Kendji Girac‘s eponymous album is down to number two (18,014 sales / -13%). It has sold 154,164 copies in its five weeks on the chart. Les Stentors slip one place at three with Rendez-Vous Au Cinéma in their second week on the chart (11,239 sales / +9%). There is no change at number four for Calogero with Les Feux D’Artifice in his eighth week inside the top 10 (7,498 sales / -10%). Leonard Cohen‘s Popular Problems moves down two places at five in its third week inside the ten best-sellers (6,701 sales / -26%).
Pascal Obispo‘s new live album Millésimes (Live 2013-14) is new at number six (6,441 sales). The compilation NRJ Hit Music Only 2014 Vol. 2 debuts at seven (5,781 sales). Ma2x‘s eponymous debut album enters at number eight (5,751 sales), Maxence Sproule (his real name) is a 18-year-old French rapper. In his third week in the top 10, Lenny Kravitz falls four places at nine with Strut (5,379 sales / -24%). Chaleur Humaine is back inside the top 10 as it climbs one at number ten for Christine And The Queens in its 19th week on the chart.
Five albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Black M slips two places at eleven with Les Yeux Plus Gros Que Le Monde in his 28th week in the top 250. After 32 consecutive weeks inside the ten best-sellers, Indila‘s Mini World moves down five places at 13 (5,024 sales / -15%). In its third week on the chart, the compilation NRJ 200% Hits 2014 Vol. 2 also falls five at number 15. Last week’s new entry at seven, The Dø‘s Shake Shook Shaken is down to number 25. It’s even worse for Prince, his Art Official Age goes from six to number 39.
Kings Of Suburbia gives Tokio Hotel their fifth top 20 LP in France as it debuts at twelve (5,025 sales). Zimmer 483 reached number two in March 2007. Mireille Mathieu gets her highest-charting album this week as Une Vie D’Amour is new at 14 (4,000 sales). Her 2005 eponymous LP peaked at 16 in October 2005. Let’s not forget that the first French albums chart was published only in January 1985.
In his 11th week on the chart, Keen’V moves back up six places at 18 with Saltimbanque. Amen jumps from 41 to number 19 for Les Prêtres in its 27th week inside the 250 best-sellers. Isabelle Boulay climbs eleven places at 23 with Merci Serge Reggiani in her 21st week on the chart.
Interlude is Jamie Cullum‘s third top 40 album as it enters at number 31. The Pursuit peaked at 18 in November 2009. L’Algérino is new at number 36 with Aigle Royal, his last album Effet Miroir was number 20 in April 2010. Caribou‘s Our Love debuts at 37.
